Given the signature in the bottom right, this artwork was undertaken prior to Josephine’s marriage to Samuel Adams in 1898, after which she changed her name to Muntz Adams.
The subject matter indicates that this still life may have been painted during Josephine’s time at the National Gallery School between 1882 and 1884–89.
